This year's Summer School will take place from June 27th to July 11th again at Seggau Castle (near Graz/Austia) and will focus on the topic "State - Society - Religion: The European Model".

For two weeks, internationally renowned experts will be at the students disposal in order to disseminate specialised knowledge and stimulate discussions in workshops, lectures and seminars. In this international environment, students will be trained to understand and discuss dimensions of Europe beyond the European Union.

The academic background of the project will be dealt with in six seminars with two lectureres each (one for each week):

(1) Law & Politics:
"The European Neighbourhood Policy: Sharing values or priorizing interests?"
"The South East European Enlargement of the EU – chances and pitfalls"
(2) Economy & Innovation:
"Generating Value with Relationship Marketing"
"Innovative entrepreneurship in a new Europe: searching for opportunities and risks"
(3) History & Power:
"The European Model in Economic Perspective: The Core and the Balkan Periphery"
"The Western Balkans, European Union Enlargement and European Identity"
(4) Society & Culture:
"Dynamics in the processes of Europeanization and Globalization – challenges for the 21st century"
"Transnational Social Formations"
( 5) Religion & Ethics:
"Relgion, Ethics and Politics"
"Is Europe in Need of More Ethics? Is Ethics in Need of More Religion?"
(6) Media & Communication
"Influence and impact of media on a Europe of change"
"Media, Communication and Language"
Moreover, talks, lectures and excursion to Graz as well as a cultural programme will be offered.

There are places available for eighty students from all over the world.

The International Summer School Seggau is funded through grants given by sponsors and donators from all over Europe. For that reason it is possible to reduce the tuition fee for students to the amount of Euro 400.- (reduced fee Euro 250.-). This tuition fee includes the Summer School programme, meals and housing. Travel arrangements have to be made and paid for individually.

Accreditation: As the Summer School is based on the ECTS system, the recognition as a regular part of participants' studies at their home
universities should be facilitated. In order to obtain a certificate (with 6 ECTS) students must actively participate in one seminar module and all lectures and also write an obligatory seminar paper. This paper will be evaluated by the academic coordinators to ensure an
appropriate level.

The deadline for applications is the 27st of March 2009 (date of receiving!)!

Applications have to be send via normal mail (snail mail) - applications via email will NOT be accepted.

Please find more detailed information on the International Summer School Seggau 2009 as well as information regarding the application procedure on the internet:
